The initial forecast of the typhoon track had it coming right for us....DEAD CENTER!
Now let me just say too that this Saturday we have an open day at school. We have so much to do to prepare. All of those papers we folded were advertisements for the open day. We also had to decorate our classrooms and the hallways in the school. It's been a major event to prepare for. Most of us also have to teach demo classes. I have to teach four 30 minute phonics classes for parents to watch.....it's a bit stressful. Jill has a lot of interviews to do also.
So the weather forecast had the typhoon hitting us on Saturday. Woo Hoo. Tuesday, same thing, heading right for us. Wednesday, all signs point to a cataclysmic event. Thursday the typhoon rating reached T3, which meant that kindergarten children stay home. We still had to work which was fine, there was plenty to do for open day (We were all convinced that it was all a waste of time because this major natural disaster was imminent). Thursday was fine by the way, a little windy at times but it was even sunny in the morning.
Here is the forecast on Thursday:
It actually straightened out a bit more and was heading directly for us.Friday was also a T3, no students and again, it didn't even rain. Then the weather tracking completely shifted. The typhoon pulled a complete U-Turn and missed us completely:
So we had our open day today, good thing we actually worked on the T3 days and had everything ready. In the aftermath of the whole event, I feel cheated and lied to by the weather forecast. It got our hopes up so much that when we realized it was missing us entirely we were utterly crushed.
I guess though we were just being selfish and have to be careful what we wish for. Typhoon Megi killed 26 people in the Philippines when it made landfall and 11 in Taiwan. No telling how many it will take out in China. It kind of puts it into perspective a little. I guess in the end we're happy it didn't hit here and cause any damage or result in any deaths.
