Wedding Bells A'ringin

A little late with this post. Kind of forgot we had a blog for a second. Last weekend we went to our previous Head Mistress' wedding dinner. It was held at one of Hong Kong's best known locations....the Cultural Center on the waterfront.

We were a bit excited but didn't know what to contribute for the "Red Pocket" gift. Normally for Chinese people, they are expected to give $500 per person. So Jill and I would be expected to give $1000 HKD for the bride. Right now that amounts to $130 Canadian. We though it would be nice to give a crisp $100 Canadian dollar bill. There was that slight hesitation when we thought about it but after talking to my co-teacher, we all thought it was a fun idea.

Here are some pictures of the night.

The happy couple and the menu for the night:

Two of my students were part of the ceremony earlier in the day. Sebastian was the page boy and Mei Mei was the flower girl. They were both at the dinner late in the evening with their parents. They were so cute. If you ever have two 5 year olds who are best friends who you know are going to get married themselves then this is it.

Here is everyone from our table....excluding us.

Usman and Fiza (two more of my students were also in attendance with their mom)

Mei Mei's parents getting her flowers ready:

Our table eating. There was a lot of food and the courses were pretty good. Plus lot's of wine.

Mmmmmm, chicken with the head. I hate it when they throw away a perfectly good head. We got the left over chicken to go (a lot of it) but I forgot it on the bus when we went home. I was really disappointed.

The lovely couple:

Dessert:
The night was actually really fun. We had a good time.

Afterwords we got this picture from the cultural center with the Peninsula Hotel in the background. (btw: if you have millions of dollars, you stay at the Peninsula).

Hong Kong from the sky

Went out Sunday for some paragliding in Shek O, a nice coastal area. Jill came along as my photographer and took some nice pictures from the ground as I flew. I took pictures from the sky. It was a beautiful day. Jill met some friends up there and continued on the mountain and completed a 3 hour hike down to the village below where we met up and had a nice early dinner at a Thai restaurant. Yumm

Launching at Shek O:
A dozen or so gliders were present today. It was nice and didn't feel too crowded.

Flying with my friend Michele, we explored a bit of the coast together, out to some points and bounced out to an island and back.

Big Wave Beach. This is where Jill emerged from her hike:

A bit of the coastline:

I went out to the end of this point where there was a very Asian lighthouse........ You have to see it to understand:

Great day, next time Jill will come again and head to the beach for the day. Although it's supposed to drop to 12C next week. We've been spoiled with 25C weather lately.
