Cherries

I came across these cherries at a street market today. It was the size of them that first caught my eye. Upon closer inspection, I saw they were from Tasmania. A big smile came upon my face to realize they came from the orchard we worked at for a month while in Tasmania. These were picked January 4th, 2010. I believe we started working there January 3rd, 2007. We started in the fields, picking the cherries, but soon got better jobs in the packing shed. Brian's job was picking out bad cherries as they went by on a conveyor belt, while my job was to fill the boxes to 5kg and replace it with a new box.

I didn't buy any today, but I wish I'd asked how much these were. I'm sure they'd be expensive as they are so large. They look perfect too. Whoever is doing Brian's job now is doing a good one.

My 30th

We celebrated my 30th birthday this week with dinner at TGI Friday's. They sang Happy Birthday to me, but made me stand up on a chair. (That's a law suit waiting to happen). Perhaps it's to deter people from 'faking' their birthdays. Here I am standing tall for everyone to see (thankfully there were only about 20 customers in the place). My candle blew out as they were singing because I was laughing with embarrassment. Got free ice cream out of it.

I thought I'd post this picture of Brian .... that's only half of his burger.

Para Sunday

I finally made it out to paraglide. We can see them flying behind our school every once and a while. It was nice to get up and have a great day. The weather was a bit cloudy and the wind was a little strong but the flying was really calm and smooth.

I had 3 flights, the longest being 45 minutes. I also met a few of the local pilots for future flights.

My gear

Ma On Shan Mountain

Can't wait to get up again.

Short Weekend

We had a picnic day on Saturday with our school. We had a long day at a park, lunch and to a shopping arcade with almost all of the kids at our school and their family members.

Jill decided to join the kids on a rope castle.

There was a small petting zoo there too.

The place was actually really bad, I didn't take too many pictures because it was so depressing. In hind sight, it would have been interesting to blog about. There were piles of garbage everywhere. We drove through what looked like a landfill to get here too. These were the healthy goats. They had some ostriches that had lost most of its feathers on their rears. Most of the animals were really sad looking and no matter where you looked you saw piles of trash. It was such a disappointing place. I'm sure if it was in Canada, the police would show up, close the place down and give all the animals to a shelter.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year all. We figured we were the first to celebrate. Our co-worker Alain used to work at Disney and asked around and was able to get free tickets for Jill and I for the day. It was actually "magical" coming here. Both Jill and I have never been to Disneyland before and were really pleased with our entire day. Alain worked here for 2 years so was able to take us around to the best places and we were able to do everything quickly.

The magic all started on the subway ride to the park. The subway had Mickey Mouse windows and the handles were also Mickey Mouse themed.

We had high expectations and were not disappointed.

This Disneyland had Snow White's castle. This one is also based on the California Disney. Apparently it's the same.

We started off with the "Golden Mickey's" an awards show where characters from Disney performed songs from their movies. It was good but the MC spoke in Chinese, that was a little weird but at least the songs were all in English.

Next was "It's A Small World", it was just like you'd imagine. Here Jill is at Canada.

Space Mountain.

Meeting the characters.

Here we are at Snow White's castle.
The Lion King show was really good.

This was on the Buzz Lightyear ride, you had to shoot targets to help him save the world from aliens.

After lunch we caught the Christmas Parade. Alain knew every other person in the parade and they all came over to say hi. Hong Kong Disney employs almost all Philippino's. They sing better than Chinese. The dancer on the left with red hair was Alain's friend who got us in on her guest pass. Her name was Tina. She was really nice.

At night we caught Illumination Parade. They lit up Main St. and had some dancing.

They gave us glasses to look at the lights. The lights all turned into snowflakes when using these glasses.

I took a picture through the glasses, this is what you would see.

I had a Disney coffee, it was magical.

It was a bit smaller than we imagined but it was incredible. We also lucked out because it was a weekday and cloudy in the morning so there weren't that many people there. We only really waited in line once or twice.
