The "Big Buddha"

Ah, holidays. Time to be a tourist for a while. We decided to head out to Lantau Island by the HK airport to see the biggest Buddha statue in Hong Kong. To get there we had to take a cable car for 25 minutes. The views were pretty good.

Also known as the Tian Tan Buddha, it sits 23 meters high (27m with the lotus flower). There are taller ones in Asia but they are all standing. This one might be the tallest seated Buddha. It's made of bronze and weighs over 200 tonnes.

There was a small "village", mostly souvenir shops and a Starbucks.

Jill near the top.

Some clouds rolled in as we were leaving. Anyone showing up after didn't see the sun and had gray clouds. We felt lucky.

At the temple many people were burning incense sticks and praying.

Monks always look like they are in deep thought, no matter what they are doing.
